About us 3

BUILDING THE FUTURE

“We are a network of organizations and citizens who share a strategy for applying zero waste practices to better manage solid waste, reduce plastics, save natural resources, and protect the environment of Vietnam. Zero waste approaches, known as the “R’s,” include Refusing (to use non-essential items); Redesigning (business models, goods, and packaging); Reducing (waste); Reusing; Rotting (i.e., composting); Recycling; Recovering; and Residuals management.

By building a strong national alliance, raising our members’ awareness, and piloting waste reduction models at community scales, we will elevate zero waste to become broadly accepted by Vietnamese society as the correct approach to waste management and as an admirable lifestyle.

By 2030, zero waste is broadly understood, supported and practiced throughout Vietnam.

VZWA brings together individuals and organizations to move local communities toward adopting zero waste by sharing best practices and adapting them for the Vietnamese context.

VZWA’s four focal strategies are:

  • Zero Waste Cities
  • Innovative Policies
  • Changing Plastics Narrative
  • Corporate Campaigning

Specifically:

  1. Developing VZWA to be a national, multi-stakeholder platform to enable participation, cooperation and champions for zero waste;
  2. Building VZWA member and partner capacity through experiential learning, studies and exchanges;
  3. Catalyzing demonstration and replication of ZW innovations and best practices among coastal/MPA communities and adjacent cities;
  4. Enabling, engaging and advocating for better ideas, policies and regulations that will make Vietnam a ZW pioneer.
